Physiology researchers report that a sedentary (non-moving) lifestyle is a leading factor in just about all causes of mortality. Recent headlines read : “Sitting is the New Smoking” and “Why You Should Move More.”
Wellness Specialist, therapist and coach, Hollie Bakerboljkovac is offering a promising change to the people of Braidwood.
“Without regular, wholebody movement your joints, muscles and tissues are freezing themselves into a slow and painful death.” says Hollie, who offers a daily movement class in her new facility in Wallace Street.
Movement is not the same as exercise! “We have to get out of the mindset that exercise is ‘the thing’ to make us healthy” says Ms Bakerboljkovac. “Exercise is what you do with a set of rules or equipment for a small part of your day, and for most people, that totals maybe two or three hours a week.”
Researchers have identified our modern culture as sedentary, meaning “Even people who consider themselves athletic, because they spend an hour or two each day in intense training… they may be moving hard and fast, but they are sitting still and un-moving for the other 22 hours of the day.”
“We just need to move in natural, healthful ways throughout the many hours of our day, like our ancestors did.” Hollie says intensity is not the key, but that constant and varied movement is important for gut health, brain plasticity and removing toxins from your body. Hollie suggests “The headlines would be more helpful if they said ‘Move Well to Be Well’ instead.”
Hollie offers Midday Movement classes at BHT : a 25 minute “movement multi-vitamin” for anyone, of any age, at any fitness level. “We focus on mobility and bodily awareness so that you can do the things you enjoy in your life, for longer.”
Hollie’s Wellness Facility is located at Braidwood Holistic Therapies, 110 Wallace Street. Midday Movement sessions are held Wednesday to Saturday at noon. Bookings are essential.
